Q&A Friday!

Too often, we focus on the negative--especially when it comes to our writing. Pinpointing what we need to work on has its place. After all, working to improve your writing is never a bad thing. However, today, in the spirit of the Wet Noodle Posse motto ("Be Good to Yourself or Else") I'd like you to share with us what you do well.
What is the best aspect of your Golden Heart (or Rita, for those entering the published RWA contest) entry? Premise, Voice, Hooks?

I've been told that I'm good at dialogue, which is good considering I love writing it!

Margay,
That's fabulous! Realistic dialogue is not easy to master. Snaps for Margay!

That's great Margay -

Even the best introspection in a story is not as good as lively dialogue.

Are you entering the GH?

Dianna, I am not sure, because of the expense and because I'm not sure if I will qualify as I have a book coming out with a (new) small press in November.

I just want to thank you all for supplying me with inspiration no matter where I am in my writing life. Especially now, when I'm trying to get my Golden Heart entry ready, and the clock is ticking.

I entered the Golden Heart last year and plan to enter it again this year with an older book of mine that I am feverishly rewriting. I forced myself to go ahead and send in the entry fee because I have a teeny problem with butt-in-the-chair self-discipline, and I knew it would spur me on and keep me from putting it off until next year.

Everyday, it seems the Noodlers provide me with some invaluable tip or answer to a question I would have never thought to ask.

Thanks for demystifying the Golden Heart process in a frank, positive way. It has really helped put the whole thing in perspective for me.

Rebecca, we're so glad we could help! Writing/selling/building a career sometimes seems like it's done with mirrors, but really it happens one step at a time (sometimes the same step many, many times). You're doing all the right things!

According to the judges who have read it, the strongest points of this year's Golden Heart (we hope) entry are - the setting, the strong three dimensional characters and the story. Now if I can just duplicate that in the 250 or so pages that come AFTER the partial! LOL

I really want to enter I just have to get this thing finished ASAP!!

I can't begin to tell you all what a huge help the Wet Noodle Posse was to me last year. There is no way I would have been a GH finalist without all of your wonderful help, encouragement and great information. This year the help has been equally great and I want to thank you all for sharing everything you know with those of us that are still just getting started. Esri, you are so right! One step at a time, repeat as often as it takes until you get there!

Rebecca, that is very nice of you to say. It's good to know that we might be helping someone out there. Because that's what we're here for. The butt-in-chair part of writing is SO important and SO hard to do sometimes. The Golden Heart does spur me on to finish a new manuscript every year.

Louisa, finish that book! Me and you both!
