Friday Q&A!!

Happy Friday to all our readers!!!

Many of our readers are also writers pursuing their dream of publication. We noodlers, Golden Heart Class of 2003, wouldn't be here if it weren't for Romance Writers of America Golden Heart contest.

What's the best reason why unpublished romance authors should enter this year's Golden Heart contest?

I love the GH--it's a way for me to finish a great (I hope) partial and synopsis. And it is an opportunity for me to win a HUGE writing lottery. I am entering two this year... same category. One is polished. One is not. My derriere is in the fire!!

LOL, Christine! And good luck this year!

I will be entering a few also... I do love the Golden Heart contest! The best of the best get to compete and you have nothing to lose except a big wad of cash! :) Like Christine, the Golden Heart motivates me to finish new manuscripts and also inspires me to keep going!

Good luck, Christine and Theresa!

For me, the best reason was the validation as a writer. I'll NEVER forget the feeling the first time I finaled. It's hard to explain but the knowledge that peers found my work worthy of finaling in this contest kept me going through many a low point. That belief helps drown out the insidious voice in my head that tells me I have no talent for writing.

Mary, that's exactly how I felt when I finaled in the MAGGIES this year. What a wonderful validation to know that I am not just whistling dixie -- tho' at times it does feel that way to me.

I was thinking about doing a section in my blog, once a month, where unpublished PROs or FINALISTS answer questions about their writing life and how they keep motivated. I see the published author section in RWR every month, and it is very inspirational. But for those of us who are still sloggin' away without pay, I think this idea might be equally as inspirational or more so!

Anyway, I am floating it out there when I return from my trip to the beach.
