Christmas Shows
My Tivo to-do list is longer than usual this time of year, because of all the Christmas shows. There are the classic must-sees:
(My son watched The Grinch so much when he was little that I know it by heart. Except for the descriptions of the toys…)
I watched MERRY MADAGASCAR because I love King Julian and also the bush baby. Not as funny as I hoped.
I also love all the movies on Hallmark and ABC Family right now, especially the romances (duh.) Did you know there’s a Debbie Macomber one called MRS. MIRACLE? How awesome! The one I really loved last year was called The Christmas Card, about a woman who sends a Christmas card to a soldier and he comes to find her. Moonlight and Mistletoe was good, too.
What about the classic movies, you ask? Christmas Vacation is my favorite, and A Christmas Story (almost have that one memorized, too.) I like Elf and Miracle on 34th Street, but can take a pass on It’s a Wonderful Life. I LOVE A Muppet’s Christmas Carol, so much that I hunted it down on VHS to show my class (we only have VCRs). I’m looking forward to seeing Four Christmases, too.
What are your favorite Christmas shows/movies? And does anyone besides me remember the show THE NIGHT THE ANIMALS TALKED? I loved that as a kid, but never see it anymore.

Yes, I remember The Night the Animals Talked. I also love the musical A Christmas Carol but haven't seen it on TV in years, though I do have it on VHS. As my newest addition to the favorite list (including the ones you mentioned): The Polar Express.
Ah, MJ, I vaguely remember the Night The Animals Talked...hmmm. I'd like to see that again. I love all Christmas movies. Rudolph is a great one. My favorite is It's a Wonderful Life. I do love this time of year although I can hardly believe Christmas is almost here already!!
My mom is so excited about Mrs. Miracle on Saturday night.
I don't like the Grinch or the claymation shows too much. But I adore Charlie Brown. The end makes me cry. But all those Christmas commercials make me cry too. And the Folgers commercial when the boy comes home. Sniff. :)
I love the Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart.
You don't know how long I thought I was crazy because no one remembered that show but me. I CLEARLY remembered sitting in the living room with TV trays eating dinner (on red and green sandwich bread) and watching it, but NO ONE remembered.
Judy, my class LOVES The Polar Express, which I find interesting because they act like they're too old for it. But they are excited about seeing it.
Theresa, I think I OD'd on It's a Wonderful Life when it was on over and over again a few years back. That hasn't happened to A Christmas Story yet, for me, I guess because it's funny.
Gillian, oh, the Christmas commercials! Yes! Love them, even though they started before Thanksgiving ;)
I love It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street. I also love almost any version of A Christmas Carol, including Vanessa Williams' A Diva's Christmas Carol.
Even as a kid I didn't like Charlie Brown or anything animated, especially animated puppets.

Diane, I don't think I've seen the Diva's Christmas Carol, and I forgot about Miracle on 34th St. I like the one with Natalie Wood.
I remember in 6th grade, we went to the theater to see a showing of A Christmas Carol. I remember it was one of the old versions, made in the 30s or something (it wasn't a NEW release when we saw it, just so you know). It's one of my favorite middle school memories.
Love Miracle on 34th Street and the Muppets A Christmas Carol ! I also like Scrooged with Bill Murray. The Grinch is a must see as is It's a Wonderful Life. And I always watch the first two Home Alone movies this time of year.
I remember The Night the Animals Talked !! I'd like to see that one again.
And how about Holiday Inn ?? Love that!
I will watch almost any version of A Christmas Carol - Alistair Sims, George C. Scott, Patrick Stewart.
I love Scrooged, too. A few years ago I watched it every time it was on.
My mom loves Holiday Inn. I don't think I've seen it the whole way through.
MJ,
My favorites include: A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim, the musical Scrooge, Scrooged with Bill Murray, Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas Story!!, Charlie Brown Christmas, Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, The Homecoming (Walton's) and The House without a Christmas Tree. Does anyone remember that? Jason Robards was the Dad.
I forgot White Christmas! Love that musical!
White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie! I watch it every year.
YES! I LOVED The House Without a Christmas Tree!
I sometimes wonder if kids today miss out on that wonderful anticipation of waiting to see the show, and getting to see it only once. I remember looking forward to watching that show, because I'd read the book.
