Christmas Shows

My Tivo to-do list is longer than usual this time of year, because of all the Christmas shows. There are the classic must-sees:

(My son watched The Grinch so much when he was little that I know it by heart. Except for the descriptions of the toys…)

I watched MERRY MADAGASCAR because I love King Julian and also the bush baby. Not as funny as I hoped.

I also love all the movies on Hallmark and ABC Family right now, especially the romances (duh.) Did you know there’s a Debbie Macomber one called MRS. MIRACLE? How awesome! The one I really loved last year was called The Christmas Card, about a woman who sends a Christmas card to a soldier and he comes to find her. Moonlight and Mistletoe was good, too.

What about the classic movies, you ask? Christmas Vacation is my favorite, and A Christmas Story (almost have that one memorized, too.) I like Elf and Miracle on 34th Street, but can take a pass on It’s a Wonderful Life. I LOVE A Muppet’s Christmas Carol, so much that I hunted it down on VHS to show my class (we only have VCRs). I’m looking forward to seeing Four Christmases, too.

What are your favorite Christmas shows/movies? And does anyone besides me remember the show THE NIGHT THE ANIMALS TALKED? I loved that as a kid, but never see it anymore.

Fall Snacks

When I was a kid my mom always made a big deal about the new TV season. We’d take our baths early and snuggle in our pjs in front of the TV, either on the couch or on a pallet on the floor. And Mom would have snacks. Maybe we'd have the same foods throughout the year, but these are the ones I relate to this time of year.

1) Marshmallow pumpkins and candy corn. Mix them with peanuts, and yum!

2) Apples with caramel dip. Okay, in those days, it was the cubes of caramel, and they'd maybe be melted, but now there's the dip you can buy, and, well, yum!

Photobucket

3) Popcorn. My favorite flannel pjs have pictures of popcorn and bottles of Coke on them. So me!

4) Chocolate Reese's cookies. I rarely bake anymore, but this time of year brings it out in me, and these are a favorite.

What are some of your favorite fall snacks? Are you watching any new shows? Impressed with any returning ones?

My New Obsession

This week I bought three TV shows on DVD. I was hooked on Supernatural last September. I got the first disc from Blockbuster Online, got hooked on the combination of creepy and smart writing and went and bought the set. The second set just came out last week, and I’ve been revisiting my favorite show.

I bought Heroes for my son.

And I’d seen three episodes of Friday Night Lights a couple of Saturdays ago. I put the episodes in my queue, but it was a long wait. My local Blockbuster doesn’t have them, but Amazon was selling the entire first season for $20. A bargain! I ordered, and it got here Wednesday. I plan to dive in this weekend.

I recently completed my Buffy and Angel DVD collection, thanks to a sale at Best Buy. I’ve hooked my neighbors. This show I actually watched BEFORE I bought the DVDs, and I added as I could.

As with Friday Night Lights, only a handful of episodes got me hooked on Grey’s Anatomy, and like Friday Night Lights, it was a bargain at $20 (though only a few discs – FNL has 5). I won’t be buying Season 3, but I love Seasons 1 and 2 and even have some episodes on my iPod.

I bought seasons 5 and 6 of the Gilmore Girls when I found them on sale, because those were the highlights of the Luke/Lorelei romance, and I plan to watch those as I dive into my new book. I have season 1, too, and plan to add as I did with Buffy and Angel.

I bought Veronica Mars, also for $20, and still haven’t watched it.

We bought the first season of Northern Exposure because we used to love that show (and who can resist the little parka it comes in?)

And I bought the first four seasons of Law and Order because I was writing RS. Research, you know. And yes, only the Chris Noth seasons.

My dh has his shows:

And the ds has his:

We’re turning into a regular Blockbuster.

Do you buy TV shows on DVD? Which ones do you have? Which ones do you want?
